Angele Khachadour, an attorney in the Bay Area, was a devoted supporter and advocate for the Monterey Bay Aquarium and its mission since 1990. When Angele’s husband, Edward L. Middelton, passed away in 2012, she began to think about her estate plan and ways she could honor her late husband, who had a tremendous love for the ocean and marine life. Angele decided that the most significant way she could leave a lasting legacy for the Aquarium was to give her home in San Francisco to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Angele reached out to the Aquarium’s Gift Planning Office to review the gift and the language in her trust. Angele also decided to make this transformational gift unrestricted for the Aquarium so that the resources could be distributed where needed most, once her property was sold.

Sadly, Angele passed away in 2020. The Aquarium was privileged to work with Angele’s sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Richard Youatt, to ensure that Angele’s wishes were honored and put into action. Angele’s generous gift helped the Aquarium in a time of extraordinary need because of our closure due to the pandemic. We will forever be grateful to Angele and Edward for their steadfast dedication to the Aquarium and for leaving a legacy that will have an impact for generations to come.
